I got the icons. I really don't have a preference, either works for me. As long as the icons have mouse over denoscriptions (which they do), that's fine.
Submitted by dc at 1/12/2003 8:41:48 PM
I see one icon which is a key in an amber square.
I would guest that means either this page is locked,
or I could click on the key to lock it.

Submitted by dc at 1/12/2003 8:53:45 PM
OK, I clicked on the key ikon,
and I got a log-in version of the screen,
then I logged in, and now I see three icons:

    a blue smudge.
a folder wih a document spring out of it.
    a giant key.

Right now the only way to see how I'm logged in is to scroll
the the bottom of the comments and see the default value
    for 'Name:'

If you could put a 'welcome dc' near these icons
if and when I'm logged in, to confirm that I'm logged in,
    thout would be good.

The alt tag captions are good, and neccessary since there's
no text. I would prefer to have a succinct text option.

Submitted by freddy at 1/12/2003 8:57:57 PM
The blue smudge is a notepad with the cover opened slightly.

could you change the post-ping-success page from

    ...
    string
stlbloggers.com pinged successfully. Thanks for the update.
    /string
    ...

to make the stlbloggers.om a clickable link.

Submitted by cybrpunk at 1/14/2003 11:27:51 AM
OK I used that manual operation thing for the pings that you linked above. Personally I liked the one click ping deal you had before but whatever. Just keep that link handy.
Submitted by bumr at 1/14/2003 12:39:07 PM
there's a "ping stlbloggers.com" on the menu if you're logged in.
Submitted by dc at 1/15/2003 6:47:20 PM
Should I be able to copy the url
    http://stlbloggers.com/ping.asmx/ping?weblogname=dc&weblogurl=
    from
    http://stlbloggers.com/
and give it to the movable type and make this work
automatically every time I post ?

    (from mtmanual_blog_config.html#item_Notify_the_following_sites_when_I_update_my_blog

In addition to weblogs.com and blo.gs, there are other services
that provide similar functionality. If you would like to ping
such services automatically, and if they support the
    weblogs.com XML-RPC ping interface
(http://www.xmlrpc.com/weblogsCom), you can add the URLs for
those XML-RPC servers to the Others box. Separate the URLs with
    carriage returns.)
Submitted by bumr at 1/15/2003 8:23:58 PM
yeah... i don't use movable type obviously but it sounds reasonable. navigating to that link will ping stlbloggers.com
Submitted by christy at 1/15/2003 8:51:21 PM
movable type...shmovable type. I left "Bloghorn.com" graffiti in a bathroom today....we need stickers. Yeah, stickers.
Submitted by bumr at 1/16/2003 12:09:07 AM
    stickers? i can do that!

    moveabletype rocks the house, biatch!

uh, anyway, the ping function of moveable type doesn't work with the stlbloggers ping. Moveabletype, blo.gs, and weblogs.com use an XML-RPC ping interface, whereas the ping here seems to be a GET request to an asp noscript. Saddly, this makes them incompatible.. There would probably be a simple perl noscript that could interface them, or even something as simple as having lynx request the url and then quit when an update is made... i'll think about it :)
Submitted by christy at 1/16/2003 9:27:34 AM
    biatch??

Ben, really, I think stickers--they don't have to be big; they don't have to be bumper-sized stickers. Ratbastard.org had some that were real simple and roughly 1 x 4 or 5 inches. They came in rolls; then we could pop 'em in places and people would remember and think that if they saw the sticker in the bathroom or on a wall or a window or a bulletin board or a car or something it must be a way cool thing.

Maybe even the little logo at the bottom of all the bloghorn pages--with the "powered by" and everything. Hmmmm.....
Submitted by bumr at 1/16/2003 9:52:32 AM
    stlbloggers.com stickers as well...
Submitted by cybrpunk at 1/16/2003 10:27:16 AM
well of course stlbloggers.com stickers! Since many of us don' need no stinkin' bloghorn stickers. :p
Submitted by christy at 1/16/2003 10:34:41 AM
I cannot make internet history as the first Bloghorn paid subscriber until Bloghorn becomes world-famous. This STLBloggers gig is just a sideline for me until my fame is equal that of that guy who was the first person to join Bloggers.com who wasn't related to Evan or Jason. You know, that one guy... ;-)

Besides, perhaps Ben is looking for that thrilling fame that I'm sure comes with being on a level equal that of Evan.

Submitted by melissa at 1/16/2003 2:19:29 PM
    To cover all bases:

    1) I don't like the icons, 2) Stickers are a good thing, and clings for car windows would be cool as well, and 3) Any waste of cheese can't be good.
Submitted by cybrpunk at 1/16/2003 2:24:23 PM
It wasn't a waste. It was a scientific endeavor.
Submitted by melissa at 1/16/2003 3:26:32 PM
Well, okay. Any scientific endeavor is okay with me. Unless it involves good, tasty cheese. Only do silly experiments with bad cheese.

Browne doesn't need to lease the space --the city paid for it, and he's just sitting pretty on a multi-million gold mine. Things will change, though, when SteinMart goes bankrupt. I imagine they'll file sometime after the holidays...
Show Me the Money
Rock Hill City Hall (Mayor, City Administrator, All the Aldermen, and Alderwomen) reminds me of "The Beverly Hillbillies" I'm not going to name, names, but I swear a couple of them have seen, Johnny Walker and Jim Bean, a few too many times. One of them looks like they just crawled out of the bottle. They can't seem to find occupants for "Market at Mcknight", however they state they are pushing forward with phase II....another Target!!!! I hear they (Novus) are wanting to much money per square foot, to lease those empty buildings. City Hall needs to go back behind closed doors, for their sessions, and stay there!

Karen, Use the first URL that Ben posted. That's the one I use and it's always worked for my sites.

Ok, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with these. Which URL do I paste into the pinging section of my blog?

And, I cleared my cookies and now can't logon. Can you send me my login info. My website is St. Louis Real Estate Insights and I've included my email address.

Thanks for that Kathy. The pinger is back online now. Everything has finally been moved to a more permanent server which will get plenty of attention when it goes down. I can start fixing these bugs -- stllboggers cookies, twitter bot, etc -- with the knowledge that any work I do won't be lost.

I'm sure you're aware that pinging hasn't worked for the last 24 hours!
kperfetto
I can log in, but not ping. I've always pinged (pung) manually. Does the automated pinger work with Blogger, too?

Love the new commenting system, though.

I'm also having a pinging issue -- when I ping (and I use firefox) I have to log in, ping, go to the main page, log in again, and ping again.

Stlbloggers is living on a temporary server which isn't honoring cookies for more than half an hour.

I'll kick it this weekend.

market at mcknight is mostly empty. don't imagine that's going to change anytime soon with the current economy. they should have left the neighborhood there.

Before the outage, I never had to re-login from the computers I use most often. I don't think I entered a password for months. Now I have to login everytime before I can ping. Maybe its a different symptom of the same issue?

Ever since that "mostly dead" incident, I have to log out then log back in every time I want to ping. Is this happening to anyone else, or just me?
