My personal blog is back up.

The short story for the down server is that a potential investor asked me to take it down while we discuss going forward on a project together.

I intentionally took down a remote server which included my blog and a couple of other non-blog sites yesterday. There's a good (as in positive) reason for doing so but I can't openly blog/talk about it yet.

moving

The new server has held up nicely for the past couple of months. The network it's on has been down twice briefly in the early stages but has been hardy since. I've started moving the big blogs over. They'll drop off of the Top 10 chart shown on this page as they get moved then everything will show up again on the charts once everything has moved over. If you find that you're getting "Access Denied" messages when you shouldn't be it may be because you've been moved. Just logout and back in again to clear everything up.

Ben, I've not visited this page for ages! I didn't know about the access denied thing. I'm getting that for several days now and I've even rebooted the computer.

    Thanks for your help.
I haven't had a problem with the blog for months and months, so I forgot what I should do when I do have trouble. I'm focused on other things!

The logout/login has been working for most people. If that doesn't do it then you may have to delete your cookies.

The issue is that your machine has a cookie that looks valid for your blog but because the blog itself is now on a different server the cookie is no longer valid. The result is that your browser is telling your blog that you're still logged in but the blog's security controls are kicking and denying you access until you get a new cookie (logout/login).

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ben, thanks for the advice. I haven't a clue as to dealing with cookies! I'll have to wait till my son does something for me, I suppose. Maybe he can help me over the phone. I'll see.

    Ben,
my blog(the whole thing, not just the ability to log in) has been coming up as *HTTP 400 - Bad Request* for several days now. Is this just part of the transition to the new server or is it something more sinister? Thanks for your help.

6 or 7 blogs are temporarily jammed up on the old server. I'll get them unjammed and publish a list here as soon as I can.

No rush on my end. I was just curious. Thanks again!

Would have been done already but I had a meeting out of state to go to yesterday. I just got back in town an hour ago. I'll see what I can do tonight after catching up with family/work.

I brought fuzzy (Eric, that's yours right?) and klueblog back up. They were the two highest trafficked blogs that haven't been moved yet.

    Hey Ben,
sorry to bug you, but my blog (Fuzzy) is down again. It's been gone for a few weeks but I didn't want to bug you at first in case it was just regular maintenance or something. Thanks in advance for your help.

Defeated by the barriers to commenting at [URL] http: //xcud .com /ben/ 1697# Comments !
So if you don't mind I will read your posts (?) there and comment here...
What I was going to say before bollixed by xcud was: Your 5-minute blog posts that you were doing before were an encouragement to me to do comment blogging at Energetic Neurons, on those days when I'm too busy to do a "real" blog post.
(Now discombobulated by my experience with xcud.) Time for a hot beverage...

Blah. Xcud actually took my comment(s) 3 times. But it delivered error messages at each attempt so I thought I hadn't gotten through! (Now grumpy...)

Sorry about that. The new code base is still in development. I've swept up the code I like and rewritten what I don't like and made it all smaller and faster and made it all 'social'. The evolution has been bloghorn -> mojira -> nochasm -> xcud. The 'nochasm' base didn't take. I ran it through a long beta with 5 users and wasn't happy in the end that it was a significant upgrade. Xcud, on the other hand, does look (so far) like a significant upgrade. The whole 'micro blog' or '5 minute blog' is very well supported in xcud.

The comments over there are 'broken' temporarily while I test out the 'Disqus' comment system. I've decided NOT to outsource the commenting system to Disqus for several reasons so I'll plug the built-in stuff back in shortly and comments will work again over there.
